How Meat Delivery Works in Singapore (and Why a Trip to Melbourne Made Me Appreciate It)
By Lena, Home Delivery Manager, Butcher Box Singapore
In August I spent some time in Melbourne, and one evening I tried to do something I do in Singapore without thinking: order good meat online and have it turn up at the door, chilled, at a time that suited me.
Running home delivery is my job, so I was curious to see how it worked elsewhere. I wanted my order to arrive the next day, but that wasn't possible, so I ended up planning the following day around a trip to the shops instead. It was no great hardship, but it did make me notice the difference. Delivery felt like an extra the shop offered on the side, where I'm used to it being a service in its own right.
Australia has brilliant butchers, so this is no criticism at all. It simply made me realise that what we have in Singapore is unusually good, and that most of us, me included, have stopped noticing.
At Butcher Box, home delivery is its own operation with its own team, vans and time slots. So here is exactly how it works, what it costs, and how to get the most out of it.
How Butcher Box delivery works
You choose your products online, pick a delivery day and time slot at checkout, and we bring the order to your door in a refrigerated van.
Delivery days:
Monday to Saturday.
Time slots:
10am to 2pm, 2pm to 6pm, or an all-day 9am to 5pm slot if you will be home anyway.
Delivery Fee:
Free for orders above $150. Orders below $150 have a $15 delivery fee.
Lead time:
Order before 3pm and your delivery can arrive as early as the next day, depending on slot availability.
You can order from the full range:Ā beef, lamb, veal, pork,Ā chicken,Ā sausages, seafood, dry age, plus deli items, cheese, condiments, and fruit and vegetables. That means a whole meal can arrive in one delivery instead of three shopping trips.
Why refrigerated delivery matters here
Singapore sits at around 30 degrees with high humidity most of the year. Meat that spends two hours in the back of an ordinary van is not the same product by the time it reaches you.
Every Butcher Box delivery travels in a refrigerated vehicle, so the cold chain holds from our facility to your front door. Chilled products arrive chilled and frozen products arrive frozen, ready to go straight into the fridge or freezer.
A service everyone in Singapore gets to enjoy
Coming back from Melbourne, what struck me is that this kind of delivery is something everyone here benefits from, whether you have lived in Singapore your whole life or arrived last month.
If you grew up here, chosen time slots and next-day delivery probably feel normal. After my trip, I can tell you they are not a given everywhere. And if you have moved here from overseas, it is one of the nice surprises of Singapore life: the cuts you know from home, whether that is aĀ roasting joint for Sunday lunch, sausages for a barbecue orĀ mince for a weeknight pasta, delivered chilled to your condo or HDB without a car, a parking space or a long walk with heavy bags.
Either way, the result is the same. You plan the meal, we handle the carrying.

Getting the most out of your order
Plan the week, then order once.
Decide on four or five dinners, order what those meals need, and you will buy less on impulse and waste less. It also makes the $150 free delivery threshold easy to reach for most households.
Order early for weekends and festive periods.
Slots fill up before long weekends, Christmas and Chinese New Year. A few days ahead gives you the best choice of products and times.
Check your freezer space.
Obvious, but worth thirty seconds before a big order lands.
Ask about vacuum packing.
If you are buying inĀ bulk and want to portion it out, vacuum packing keeps meat in better condition for longer in both fridge and freezer.
Not sure which cut?
Read the product description or ask our butchers. The right cut for a slow braise is the wrong cut for a hot grill, and we are always happy to steer you.
Prefer to shop in person?
Delivery is one option. Our three stores are the other, and our butchers are there every day to talk through cuts and cooking.
