Lemon-Herb Crab Canapés

Fresh, sweet Australian Fraser Island Spanner Crab meat tossed in a light, lemony dressing, served on crisp cucumber slices or toasted baguette rounds. A refreshing and luxurious bite-sized appetiser that’s sure to impress.


✅ Ingredients (Makes 16–20 pieces)

  • 150g raw crab meat (Butcher Box Australian Fraser Isle Spanner Crab Meat)

  • 1–2 tbsp mayonnaise or crème fraîche

  • Zest of ½ lemon + 1 tsp lemon juice

  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard (optional)

  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh dill or parsley

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 1 cucumber, sliced into thick rounds OR baguette, thinly sliced & toasted

  • Optional: microgreens, chives, or tobiko for garnish


👩🍳 Instructions

1. Cook Spanner Crab

  • In a small pan, drizzle with olive oil and stir fry the crab meat for 1-2 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.

  • Let it cool, cover and place in the chiller for 1 hour. You can also prepare the crab the night before.

2. Mix the Crab Filling

In a small bowl, gently combine:

  • Cooked crab meat

  • Mayonnaise or crème fraîche

  • Lemon zest and juice

  • Dijon mustard (if using)

  • Fresh herbs

  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
    Be careful not to overmix; you want to keep the crab light and fluffy.

2. Assemble the Canapés

  • Spoon a small mound of the crab mixture onto each cucumber slice or toasted baguette round.

  • Garnish with chopped chives, dill, or microgreens.

  • Optional: add a small dollop of tobiko or a tiny wedge of lemon for flair.

3. Serve Chilled

  • Arrange on a platter and serve immediately, or refrigerate for up to 1 hour before serving.
